We all know the story of the pilgrims and how they came to our country to avoid religious persecution in England. We know about the “Indians” who were here when they arrived, and that there was a feast to celebrate their safe arrival. The kids in this enlightening video are tracking that far, at least.

If you’re like these clever kids, however, the rest of the story is kind of hazy. If you’d like a refresher course on the “true” story of this week’s holiday, you’ll want to watch this unique version of The Thanksgiving Story.

While I cannot guarantee that, after watching this video, the gaps in your memory of history will be filled, I can promise that you will find a big smile crossing your face, and you may even get a couple of laughs out of it.

I don’t want to spoil your enjoyment of the video. Suffice it to say that they touch on the following subjects:

How the "African-Americans" were the people who lived here before us.

That there was a man named Calvin, who had a friend named Hobbs.

The pilgrims arrived on the Mayflower.

Their idea of how pilgrims talked.

Pilgrim attire

and their overall appearance.

How the Native Americans were very nice but the French stole their land.

What was served at the big feast.

And for dessert!

After covering the back story, the kids move on to share what they are personally thankful for.

There are traditional ones like friends, family, a good school, siblings, cousins (even if they beat you up), clothes, games, not having to wear a hat (??), cats, and our body parts (from the neck up, anyway).

It’s precious to see into the hearts of the most innocent members of our society, and it’s heartening to see that the next generation understands the true reason we celebrate Thanksgiving.

The kids may have some of the details wrong, but the most important parts are right on target. (1) the realization that we are all fortunate to have the blessings that we have in our lives, (2) the importance of taking a single day out of the year to reflect on that sentiment, and (3) how vital it is to express that gratitude throughout the rest of the year. Such wisdom - out of the mouths of babes! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

I hope you enjoy seeing these sweet kids give their takes on the upcoming holiday. Just click on the video, below, to see it in its entirety.
