Now that it is mere hours before the British royal wedding takes place, it’s all anyone wants to discuss. The topic is being covered globally as many are setting alarms, DVRs, and marking their calendars for the exact time, date, and television station in which they can observe every detail of the glorious event.
There has been some unpredicted turn of events take place in the days leading up to the now called “wedding of the century,” and they aren’t all pleasant. With the drama and chaos stemming from the uninvited Markle clan to the staged paparazzi photos of Thomas Markle, the bride and groom have been carefully trying to put out as many fires as possible.
Thankfully, now that the time is drawing so near, the dust is finally beginning to settle. One of the biggest kinks in the plans thus far is Thomas Markle’s failure to travel to London. Originally, he had planned on walking his daughter down the aisle in one of the most heavily broadcasted events of the year.
Unfortunately, Markle suffered heart issues and had since had to undergo surgery and lost his opportunity to be part of his daughter’s special day. Some think the cause is health related, while others believe it was out of sheer stress and anxiety that caused the onset of heart issues.
Nevertheless, Meghan still was in need of having someone walk her down the aisle - and didn’t have a whole lot of time to sort that issue out. Some heavily debated that it would be her mother, Doria Ragland that would fill the role, but in a turn of events recently confirmed by the palace, that will not be the case.
Meghan thoughtfully chose her soon-to-be father-in-law, Prince Charles, to escort her down the aisle. While this is a huge testament to their already budding relationship, many wonder just what Mr. Markle thinks of the outcome.
Today, Thomas finally broke his silence on the heavily debated issue. According to sources, Thomas is “honored and grateful that the Prince of Wales will walk his daughter down the aisle.” Thomas spoke with his daughter and Prince Harry on the phone and verbally gave his blessing for Charles to take his place.
Sources also state that he was not surprised by Meghan’s choice for the role and said he is getting along well after his surgery and will be proudly watching the wedding on TV. He went on to say that he has great hopes to visit her in the U.K. shortly.
While we are devastated that he will not have the honor of being there for his daughter, we can take comfort in the fact that he happily gave his blessing for a very suitable replacement to walk in his shoes.
Our thoughts and prayer are with Thomas Markle that he will make a fast recovery.
