The most magical season has only just begun as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said “I do” on Saturday, May 19th in St. George’s Chapel. The royal newlyweds- who were given the official title of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex- captured the world’s attention with love and adoration for one another.
The wedding was stunning in every way; from Prince Harry’s Blues and Royals frockcoat uniform to Meghan’s show-stopping arrival, the day was absolutely beautiful. One key individual who desperately wanted to be there to witness the nuptials, was forced to watch from hundreds of thousands miles away.
Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father, had emergency heart surgery just three days before his daughter’s wedding. His attendance had been unclear for quite some time leading up to the wedding, but on May 16th, it was confirmed that the father of the bride would not be there to see his daughter marry her groom.
Despite the massive amounts of reported drama between Meghan and her father, Thomas shared honest and quite frankly- shocking- words about his daughter on her big day.
The recovering heart surgery patient watched the wedding from California and later shared his sentiments with TMZ. He lovingly shared, “My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy… I wish I was there and I wish them all my love and all happiness.”
His words stunned the millions who had been following the distant relationship. He shared that he texted Meghan that morning, wishing her luck and sending his love. Meghan was escorted down the chapel’s Quire by her father-in-law, Prince Charles. A moment that must have been incredibly difficult for Thomas to watch.
Thomas also shared his hopes for the new couple, "Now I pray that Harry and Meghan can go on a nice honeymoon and rest and relax, and all of my relatives will just shut up about everything."
Surely, Thomas was thrilled to watch his daughter marry but ached to be with her. It must have been difficult for him. We hope they can see each other soon and Harry can meet his new father-in-law. What do you think about his statement? Let us know in the comment section on Facebook!
