Violent New York City Helicopter Crash Kills 5

March 12, 2018

It was a quiet Sunday evening when a sightseeing helicopter crashed violently into the East River. The moment was caught on camera by at least two cell phones as it plunged into the icy waters.

Liberty Helicopters owns the helicopter that crashed and has had several crashes in the past including a collision with a plane in 2009 that killed 9 people.

As you watch the Youtube video at the bottom of the story, you are able to hear the pilot saying “MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY… EAST RIVER ENGINE FAILURE!”

The helicopter had been rented for an evening photo shoot. Those who died in the crash were all securely harnessed to the helicopter because the doors were left open to provide a better view.

Only the pilot was able to free himself as the helicopter turned upside down trapping everyone else on board.

Two were pronounced dead at the scene while the other three were pronounced dead at nearby hospitals.

Please keep their families in your prayers as they go through this difficult time.
