Fans of the highly praised Wendy Williams Show were hit with a devastating and highly unexpected blow on March 19.
Months ago, Williams had to reveal that she had been battling a serious illness for quite some time. It became so severe that it required her to take a break from her highly publicized life in order to work on fully recovering.
The host, Wendy Williams herself, was the one who felt it necessary to reveal her hidden truth to her thousands of fans on television. She knew it was time for her to open up and be truthful once and for all.
She started off her confession by saying, “So, you know me for being a very truthful and open person, and I’ve got more to the story for you.”
She continued: “You know, Kevin. Kevin and I have the Hunter Foundation for the good fo the people and we recently launched our 888-5Hunter number for those of you caught up in the struggle of addiction.”
Then she broke out her startling and tearful revelation.
“Well, for some time now, and even today and beyond, I have been living in a sober house. When you see me come to work glammed up, right after the show I go across the street [and] I do my pilates. I told you, two hours a day I like to take care of my body.”
“And you know I’ve had a struggle with cocaine in my past. And I never went to a place to get the treatment. I don’t know how except God was sitting on my shoulder and I just stopped.”
“But there are people in your family - it might be you - you have been struggling. And I want you to know more of the story. So this is my autobiographical story, and I’m living it. I’m telling you this."
“After I go to the pilates, I go to several meetings all around town in the Tri-state area and I see my brothers and sisters caught up in their addictions and looking for help. They don’t know I’m Wendy. They don’t care I’m Wendy. There’s no autographs, there’s no nothing. It’s the brothers and sisters caught up in the struggle. It’s been really interesting, this ride.”
She then went on to further detail how her day proceeds. “After I finish my appointments, I am driven by my 24-hour sober coach back to the home that I live in here in the Tri-State with a bunch of smelly boys who have become family. Doors lock at 10:00 pm. Lights out by 10:00 pm. So I go to my room and stare at the ceiling and fall asleep to wake up and come back here to see you. So that’s my truth.”
Little did she know just how impactful her truth truly would be to her following. She instantly received so much support from her online fan base, all with encouraging words, thoughts, and prayers for her full recovery.
This is a lesson that reminds us that even though we may see someone who appears to have it all together all the time, it isn’t always the case. Some have serious hidden struggles that we’ll never know anything about. Be kind to everyone, for you never know what battles they’re facing.
