When The Hospice Staff Hears This Dying Man’s Last Wish, They Go Above And Beyond The Call Of Duty To Make It Happen
An end-of-life wish comes true for one resident of the North Devon Hospice. 87 year-old Patrick Saunders is spending his final days in the care of a loving hospice staff. Though he is quite content and comfortable, he has one final wish to fulfill before his time on earth is complete. More than anything, he wants one last opportunity to be with his first love: horses.
The hospice staff catches wind of his desire and they know they have to do something to help. After much brainstorming, they concoct a brilliant plan. They arrange for a rescue horse to stop in and pay Mr. Saunders a surprise visit. Because of his condition, Mr. Saunders is unable to leave the bed. Instead of letting this difficulty hinder the surprise, they decide to wheel him outdoors so he can fully experience his wish-come-true.
The family gathers around, in great anticipation of his reaction to the surprise. The moment Mr. Saunders lays eyes on the stunning horse, the staff instantly know that all their efforts have been more than worthwhile. His face lights up brighter than the sun and he can’t shake the broad smile from his face. His emotions exemplify pure, undiluted joy and all those watching can’t help but smile as well.
Though Mr. Saunders didn’t live long after this experience, he did get to spend his last time on earth fulfilling a heartwarming wish, all while brightening the lives of those around him. Check out the video, below, of this sweet encounter.
