On the evening of Sunday, March 18, a horrible tragedy struck in Tempe, Arizona. A woman was struck and killed by an Uber vehicle, and she passed away after being transported to a local hospital. Unsurprisingly, the Uber vehicle in question was one of their new self-driving cars that was currently in ‘autonomous’ mode when the woman was hit and killed.

Tempe Police report that the accident took place at around 10 pm at the intersection of Mill Avenue and Curry Road. Uber went on to confirm that the car was in ‘autonomous’ mode at the time of the accident. Police are not yet releasing her name as they are still working on contacting her family. The investigation is ongoing, and Uber is reportedly being co-operative.

Self-driving cars have been the cause of quite a few debates since the idea was first announced. Many opponents of the idea state this exact scenario as a reason for why self-driving cars are not a wise plan, while proponents of the idea have repeatedly stated that this was not a potential problem they were concerned about and that it would truly impossible. What do you think, should we let the self-driving cars stay on the road?

This is a horrible story, and we know that sometimes we need a reminder of the good in the world after a horrible time like this, so check out the video below!
