There are times in life that we need all the encouragement we can get in order to make it through hard circumstances. It seems, at times, that the human spirit burns brightest in the midst of darkness. Such is the case with Garrett, a strong young boy who inspires everyone who hears his story.

When he was ten years old, Garrett was struck by a van. Garrett's family rushed him to the hospital, and the doctors saw that the young man could not move his body at all. Soon after, Garrett went into a comatose state. Garrett was in a coma for a month straight and, even when he awoke, doctors were unsure if Garrett would ever recover.

Through all of this, Garrett kept a smile on his face, and his spirit was alive with a fire that refused to burn out. Garrett spent weeks in intensive care but, eventually, was able to start his rehabilitation. After months of effort, Garrett, finally, started moving.

To the astonishment of all the doctors, Garrett was walking just six months after his accident. With the help of his physical therapist, Garrett was soon swinging a baseball bat again and shooting hoops with his friends. It was almost as though Garrett had never been in an accident, for all the notice he took of his injuries or people's doubts about his recovery.

Because they knew his love for baseball, Garrett's parents got in touch with the manager of the Delmarva Shorebirds baseball team. They told him the story of Garrett's determination and recovery, and they also shared with him Garrett's love of the team. The manager decided to reward the young warrior's fighting spirit by letting him throw the first pitch at one of the team's home games!

So, in front of the thousands of people in attendance, and fitted with his very own Shorebirds jersey, Garrett took the pitcher’s mound. Garrett wound up and delivered a perfect pitch to start the game. As he made his way back to his seat, Garrett had no idea how many lives he touched with every step, or how many people he inspired with his very life. Watch the video, below, to catch a glimpse of the young fighter for yourself!
