Moriko, or Rico as her friends and family call her, is a gorgeous little Dogo Argentino mix who lives with her adoring family in New York City. Rico is a beloved and playful family pet who loves nothing more than to spend her day playing with her canine friends! She loves to go exploring, and has been on many vacations and trips with her doting parents!
Moriko may be living the life of a city dog nowadays, but her life wasn’t always so full of love and joy. In fact, Rico wasn’t even born in the United States; she was born in Puerto Rico! The start of her life was full of fear and uncertainty, so we’re glad that she was able to get the home she so desperately needed.
When Rico was a tiny pup, the monster who owned her mother abandoned her in the jungle to die. They never wanted puppies, and no one would take her, so they decided to get rid of her one way or another. At least she didn’t have to survive on her own for long before she was saved.
Rico’s future owners were on vacation in Puerto Rico and were enjoying a waterfall tucked up in the jungles, when a strong thunderstorm hit. The rain was pouring down as the wind howled all around them, when they first spotted Rico. She was huddled under trees, trying desperately to stay out of the rain, and they knew they couldn’t leave her there.
When they reached the nearby town, they began to ask around if anyone had lost a puppy, and everyone told them no. When they asked one local man, he told them that a large majority of the strays were euthanized because of the huge stray problem they had. The couple were appalled and knew that they could not leave her there to die.
They named her Moriko, a Japanese name that means “Forest Child,” after the location where they found her. They brought her back to the USA with them, and they’ve never been apart since. Her family is so grateful that they were in the right place at the right time to save their beloved girl from what could have been a horrific death. She seems to understand that her family saved her, and she is a grateful pup. She loves her family just as much as they love her, and it’s been a match made in heaven.
