One day a stray German Shepherd was brought into an animal shelter for assessment. Workers at the shelter tried to go through their normal routine but the dog made it difficult for them. The dog was not aggressive or even energetic. The dog was terrified. The pup was too afraid of people to even let them touch her.
Workers were concerned that the dog would never be able to be adopted because of her debilitating fear of people. The dog had been on the streets for so long that the very idea of affection was foreign to her. The pup had never even worn a collar.
The workers at the shelter decided to do whatever they could to help the dog trust people. The workers sent the dog to a special trainer to see what he could do to help her. The dog remained frightened, but the trainer came into her kennel and simply sat with her. He offered her food from his hand, which she eventually, timidly, took. And so the healing process began.
