These Black Bears Were Sentenced To Death, Before A Wild Animal Rescue Stepped In To Save Them
Bears are amazing animals with playful attitudes, and it’s hard not to love these animals. They are very intelligent animals, capable of knowing many different commands as well. While these animals are fun to observe, they also run the risk of being very dangerous to us in their natural habitats.
Delilah and Blossom lived at the Little River Zoo in Norman, Oklahoma until the zoo closed in 2011. The zoo was facing serious money problems and they were doing their best to care for all 240 animals while they found them new homes. They were having an extremely difficult time placing all of the animals, and with no income it was getting harder to care for all of the animals.
Due to the severe money problems, the bear’s food was subpar and they were not given a safe diet. Their enclosure was also neglected thanks to monetary problems. The zoo was becoming desperate to find the girls a new home, and when no one showed interested in months, the zoo officials began to negotiate with a big game ranch. At the big game ranch, the girls would have been “hunted” and killed by people who would pay thousands to do so.
When Bobbi Brink with Lions, Tigers and Bears heard about their situation they offered to take the bears. They were currently building a new bear habitat for their first rescued bear, Liberty. While they continued to work on the habitat, Bobbi and her father began to work on a specialized trailer that would allow them to transport the girls safely. Before the bears came to the rescue, a vet checked them over to ensure their health. Although they were a little overweight from the diet, they were healthy.
The custom made trailer had air conditioners, extra air vents on the ceiling, a generator, circuit breakers, and large transport crates. The girls arrived safely at Lions, Tigers, and Bears in their specialized trailer with no ill side effects. The trailer took weeks of hard work by Bobbi and her dad, and the bears could not come to their new home until the trailer was completed.
Since their rescue, they have become accustomed to their new home, and are living happily in the large fancy enclosure. They share their enclosure with three other bears - Liberty, Meatball, and Sugar Bear.
I had the amazing opportunity to see Delilah and Blossom in their large habitat, and they were extremely healthy looking. They are very happy and love their new home - and seem to like their companions.
