Dogs are one of the most loyal creatures on the planet, and that is even more true for mother dogs. There is nothing more loyal and determined to care for her young than a dog with puppies! Momma dog, Oreo, was determined to show just how true that is when rescuers tried to separate her from her puppy!
When Hope for Paws Rescue got a call from a group of locals about a mother dog and her pup running loose on the street, they knew that they needed their help. When they realized just how close the two were living to the freeway, they knew they needed to save them right away!
The locals had been feeding and caring for the Oreo and pup for a while, and had been trying desperately to find a rescue to come step in and help! They were able to be there to see them rescued, so they knew the two of them were safe.
When the rescuers began to attempt to rescue the dogs, they found the puppy, Cookie Monster, was near a hole in the fence that led up to the freeway! Eldad, one of the rescuers, knew they needed to act fast so he raced towards him with the net!
Luckily, he was able to net the terrified puppy as he tried to slip through the hole to escape. When Oreo heard the cries of her puppy and saw him trapped she raced over to help and to calm her puppy. However, she was even more terrified of them so she hid in the bushes nearby while they leashed her puppy.
Momma refused to approach them again, and they retreated with her puppy. The locals were there at the rescue, and Oreo trusted them enough to approach. She allowed them to leash her although she was filled with fear. Then Lisa, another rescuer, let Oreo see her puppy.
At the rescue, they warmed up to their rescuers and made friends with Jordan, another dog there. The mother and son pair are now living happily and safely at a foster while they wait for their forever home!
