An Islamic State bomber blew himself up on March 9 at a police checkpoint in Kabul, Afghanistan. He killed 9 people and injured 18 others in the deadly attack. He had been targeting Hazaras, Afghanistan’s Minority, as they commemorated the death of their leader, Abdul Ali Mazari, who was killed by the Taliban in 1995. The bomber got as close to the crowd as he could before detonating himself, hoping to take as many lives as he could.
Of the 9 dead, one police officer was included in that total and was announced dead at the scene. When the LA Times spoke with a Local Hazara leader, Mohammad Mohaqiq, he blamed the Taliban and Islamic State, as they have both targeted them in the past in an attempt to terrorize their people. This attack will surely help further destabilize the region, and things are surely only going to get worse after this attack.
It seems we are no closer to peace in the Middle East as reports of bombings and murders continue to rise. Please keep the victims and their families in your prayers as they go through this exceedingly difficult time.
