The richest couple in the world, Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, and his wife, Mackenzie Bezos, have announced that they officially getting a divorce after 25 years of marriage.
The couple became internationally known after Jeff Bezos launched Amazon in 1994- just one year after getting married.
The couple met during an interview for MacKenzie at a hedge fund. They quickly struck up a relationship and just three months into dating, they got engaged. Three months after that, they were married.
In the early days of Amazon, they each worked for Amazon; Jeff as the CEO and MacKenzie as an accountant. But quickly after it’s launch, MacKenzie returned to her first career passion and became a writer. Jeff continued working as the CEO for Amazon which has now become Wall Street’s most valuable company.
Amazon has become a new way of life for much of the world, and Jeff credits much of his success to his former wife. Worth more than $140 billion, Jeff shared his gratitude for his wife and family, saying, “When you have loving and supportive people in your life, like MacKenzie, my parents, my grandfather, my grandmother, you end up being able to take risks.”
Given the immense respect that Jeff has shown to his wife, millions were stunned to learn of their divorce. Jeff likely anticipated that his their divorce would come as a shock, so he took to Twitter to share the news himself.
Together, they wrote: “We want to make people aware of development in our lives. As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends,”
They added, “We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of our years we have been married to each other. If we knew we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again. We’ve had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures. Though the labels may be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends.”
Our hearts break at hearing this news and we pray that they work through their differences and continue to remain friendly and kind to one another. We pray for the children whose lives will no be different.
