The world was overwhelmed with excitement when the long-awaited news finally had hit the internet on May 6, 2019 - Baby Sussex was finally born!
It was a highly anticipated day that people of all ages and walks of life had been anxiously awaiting from the moment the pregnancy announcement was made. Not only is it thrilling news for another royal baby to be added to the family, but it was a first for Prince Harry.
The beaming first-time father was not shy about hiding his excitement over a healthy baby boy when he officially addressed the media in the hours following the birth. “I’m very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning. A very healthy baby boy,” he started.
“Mother and baby are both doing incredibly well. It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever possibly imagine,” he said happily. Following this, the joint royal family social media account, @TheRoyalFamily, made the official posting of the birth.
“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526 hrs. The baby weighs 7lbs 3oz. The Duke of Sussex was present for the birth,” the announcement began. What was said following this is what caught many devout royal followers’ attention the most.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news. The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage.”
This is nothing new to reveal that all of the close family is thrilled with the birth of the child but what caught the most attention was just who was included in the listing. Hidden in plain sight was a subtle tribute to Harry’s mother’s side of the family.
Harry and Meghan wanted to make it a point to have Princess Diana remembered in the grand announcement and the best and most suitable way they knew how to do it was by including her side of the family: her sisters Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale and her brother Earl Spencer.
While this is likely the first of many tributes to the iconic Princess, we know that she would be more overjoyed than anyone else to see her youngest son finally become a father.
Congratulations to the happy couple! We cannot wait to see pictures of the little royal!
