Beloved Musician Dies At 36 After Battle With Skin Cancer

April 11, 2018

On April 11, 2018, it was announced that Timothy “Timmy” Matley, had passed away at 36 years old. Although no official cause of death has been released, he had been battling skin cancer since 2016 and many believe that to be what finally cost this talented musician his life.

Timmy was born in Cork, Ireland, on February 16, 1982. His love of music and performing began when he was 14 years old. Unfortunately, his love of music and dancing led his classmates to bully him.

When he was 17, he decided to leave Ireland behind because he felt like college wasn’t right for him. He spent the next few years traveling before returning in his early 20’s to focus on his singing and songwriting.

In his 20’s, he went on to audition for The X Factor, where he performed so wonderfully that he was able to make it to the stage before the judge’s houses.

In 2010, Timmy joined The Overtones, where he quickly became the lead singer. The band would go on to have four albums in the UK’s Top Ten, with their debut album “Good Ol’ Fashioned Love” reached number four on the charts.

Timmy had been looking forward to going skydiving on May 3 and had been using it as a chance to raise money for “The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity” which is where he received treatment for his cancer. He had raised over $7,000 at the time of his passing.

When he wasn’t on stage or working on his music, Timmy could often be found knitting as that was a true passion of his as well. He also loved watching meerkats whenever he had the chance, as they were certainly one of his favorite animals.

Please pray for Timmy’s friends and family as they face this tragic loss. If you get the time today, take a moment to listen to one of the band’s songs and truly appreciate their music.

This is a horrible story, and we know that sometimes we need a reminder of the good in the world at a time like this, so be sure to check out the video below!
