Bill Cosby, the formerly beloved icon known as “America’s Dad,” has officially spent his first week in state prison. Bill Cosby was sentenced 3-10 years after being tried against drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constrand in 2004.
Bill Cosby was carried away from the courtroom in handcuffs on Tuesday, September 25th, 2018 and immediately transferred to his home for the next 3-10 years: Pennsylvania State Correctional Institution Phoenix in Schwenksville, PA. With his head held low and his hands in cuffs, the world watched as guards escorted the former icon into the back of a police car.
After the first week of his sentence, TMZ reported that Cosby’s time in prison has been rather laid back. On October 2nd, 2018, TMZ painted Cosby’s first week in prison to be cheerful and easygoing, saying that Cosby, “is getting friendly with the staff, touring the prison grounds, and chatting with his wife almost every day.”
Cosby, who is legally blind, is reported to have a constant guide to help him make his way around the facility. Additionally, having a guide will also act as a source of protection to the star during his star in prison.
TMZ also reported Cosby to have a private cell, complete with a window, a desk, and a toilet. When he’s not in his cell, he favors the prison's library, yard and other facilities.
Meal times are reportedly spent in his cell; although it’s likely that he would prefer his cell. One news outlet, Consequence of Sound, reported that Cosby was greeted with a hot dog to the face upon his first day in prison. If that’s what he’s met with in the cafeteria, it’s like that he would rather eat alone.
After TMZ’s report of his first week in prison, critics were outraged at his “comforts” of prison. Many critics took to social media where they declared his comfortable stay in prison to be a breeze.
However, this is only the beginning of his sentence and TMZ confirms that Cosby has not yet been admitted to the prison’s general population yet.
