Daytime drama fans across the globe were recently hit with the shock of a lifetime with a recent announcement by one of the greats.
If you’ve watched television drama in the past thirty years, there’s one incredibly recognizable face that has created friends, enemies, and everything in between.
The 59-year-old actress, Eileen Davidson, began her journey with the hit television series, The Young And The Restless, in 1984. From the very start, she was someone to watch. During her time on the show, she starred in nearly 1,500 episodes.
On June 27th, she tweeted a statement to tell everyone she would be saying goodbye to her beloved role and cast. She wrote:
“Yes, I am leaving my second home @YandR_CBS in September. I’ve been so blessed to be able to play Ashley Abbott and work with the amazing people on the show and have nothing but gratitude and love for all!!!! Time for a little more control over my day to day!”
She starred in this series from 1982 to 1988, and later returned in 1999 where she continued to act until recently. In April 2017, she received a Daytime Emmy for Best Actress.
This isn’t the first time Davidson has startled the world by stating her exit. She played the unforgettable role of Kristen Blake on Days Of Our Lives from 1993 to 2012, and her departure from the show was devastating for many.
Before either announcement, Davidson made the decision to leave one of her other shows, The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills, after starring in the hit show for three seasons.
According to sources, she stated the following: “After a lot of careful thought, I’ve decided because of my crazy schedules at The Young And The Restless, as well as Days Of Our Lives, it’s best for me and my family if I step away from being a Housewife for now.”
She continued: “But you never know, I might be popping in from time to time just to see what the ladies are up to! Thanks for your love and support guys!!!”
While many will miss seeing her on her various shows, family does take priority. We hope that she enjoys her time away from the small screen and, in the meantime, we can rewatch some of her best episodes in all three shows!
