Harry And Meghan’s Children Will NOT Be Princes And Princesses. Here’s The Bewildering Reason Why

Over the past four or five years, the entire world has become enormously enamored with the offspring of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. After all, not only are Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis absolutely adorable, they have also managed to charm their way into our hearts with their captivating behavior and delightful antics.

We have eagerly awaited the birth of each and every one of William and Kate’s children and have been overjoyed to finally meet them on the day of their arrival.

Now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have tied the knot and have made no secret of the fact that they wish to start a family - sooner rather than later - our ‘baby fever’ has once again been awakened.

Hoping for a ‘honeymoon baby’ for the newly entitled Duke and Duchess of Sussex is causing us to count ahead nine months to find out when we can look forward to meeting the firstborn child of the newly-wed couple.

By my calculations, late February would be the earliest time that the first son or daughter of the second-born son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana could legitimately make his or her royal appearance.

While very few couples end up having a baby exactly nine months after their wedding (Elvis Presley and wife Priscilla was one notable exception) we can’t help ourselves from imagining the possibility. By what we have seen of Harry over the years and of Meghan in the short time we have known her, we can say without a shadow of a doubt that those two will be fabulous parents.

And won’t it be wonderful for George, Charlotte, and Louis to have cousins so close in age to them as royal playmates? Not to mention the thought of greeting brand new princes and princesses as they arrive on the world scene.

Not so fast on the prince and princess part! Harry and Meghan’s children likely will NOT be princesses and princes and the reason why is beyond what any of us commoners can grasp. But, as you may have suspected, they have a rule for that and it’s not easy to circumvent those things!

This Insider breaks it down for us by trying to explain something so inconceivable: “In British nobility, you are automatically a prince or princess at birth if you are born to a sitting monarch, are born to the eldest son of a sitting monarch, or are otherwise declared to be so by a sitting monarch.

“Since Prince Harry is not the eldest son of the Prince of Wales, any of his children will officially be Lord or Lady Mountbatten-Windsor at birth — according to current rules.

“Sitting monarchs can issue Letters Patent, which can change the titles and styles of members of the royal family for the term of that monarch's reign.”

And Queen Elizabeth has done just that numerous times so there is a possibility that she may bestow the titles of Prince or Princess on Harry and Meghan’s children. After all, she did that with two of her existing great-grandchildren by issuing a new Letters Patent.

Independent explains, “George was always entitled to be HRH Prince George of Cambridge as the eldest son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales. But HRH Princess Charlotte of Cambridge would have been Lady Charlotte Mountbatten-Windsor.

But in 2012, Her Majesty the Queen stepped in when Kate was three months pregnant, issuing the new rule that would apply to any and all children the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would have. It decrees that “all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title, and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honour.”

It is unlikely that Prince Harry will ever be King and, consequently, won’t need his children to be protected by the same rules as William’s But it is well-known that the Queen is extremely fond of her ‘dearly beloved grandson’ and would be inclined to bestow the same honor on any of his offspring.

Only time will tell what the titles of the future babies of Meghan and Harry will be, but one thing is for sure. They will be dearly loved by not only their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents, but also by the rest of the world. And we can hardly wait to meet these little darlings, no matter what they’re called!
