After raising hopes of family and friends with the report of a potential sighting of a missing Wisconsin girl, Investigators are backpedaling now on the importance of the tip received Tuesday. In spite of video evidence of a black SUV with two men in it, police have been unable to substantiate the associated tip of a girl matching 13-year-old Jayme Closs inside the vehicle.
The witness claimed to have spotted the ‘endangered’ teen at a gas station in Miami, Florida and that bit of news sent investigators scurrying for verification of the sighting. But, they have been unable to substantiate the tip and been unable to find any corroborating witnesses.
In the meantime, authorities continue to investigate what could have happened to the girl and ask for the public’s help inter ongoing search.
Fox News reports, “Barron police responded to a 9-1-1 call at the home on Highway 8 just before 1 a.m. Monday and found the teen’s parents, James Closs, 56, and Denise Closs, 45, dead inside. Fitzgerald said there was evidence of gunshots, but stopped short on definitively saying how the couple died."
Police say they received a 9-1-1 call shortly before 1:00 AM on Monday from an unidentified person asking for assistance. Authorities would not say if the person making the call could have been one of the victims or the daughter.
13-year-old Jayme Closs is the deceased couple’s only child and has not been seen since. Jayme is described as being 5 feet tall, 100 pounds, with green eyes and blond or strawberry blond hair.
Over 150 agents and investigators are working “around the clock” on this case but, as of yet, police do not have anything concrete leads. They have received hundreds of leads that have been pouring in from across the country.
Jayme was last seen at a family gathering on Sunday and the autopsies of her parents, 56-year-old James Closs, 56, and 45-year-old Denise Closs are scheduled for Wednesday. Police are not saying if they died from gunshot wounds or from some other cause, but there do say that firearms had been discharged at the scene.
Please continue to pray for the safe return of 13-year-old Jayme Close and for the family and friends who are dealing with this horrific loss.
