For as long as Kate Middleton has been on the scene of the British Royal Family, she’s been an adored by the world. But even in the midst of her international adoration, Kate happened to face some uphill battles by the media- one of them being her nickname.
For royal watchers who’ve followed William and Kate’s relationship from the beginning, the length of the couple’s courtship became a hot topic. For more than 7 years, Kate waited while Prince William as he tried to make up his mind for moving forward with his final bride.
While Kate was so patient with William, the world saw her patience as a topic to poke at and after a couple of years of waiting, she was dubbed the nickname “Waity Katie.”
For years, Kate proved to be patient while William navigated through the idea of committing to a relationship. Knowing that he would one day be king, the weight of inviting another person into his life so intimately and publicly was surely a heavy thought. But through it all- even a few breaks- Kate proved to remain steadfast in her commitment to Prince William while they were dating.
The nickname “Waity Katie” implied that Kate was simply sitting and waiting for William to propose. And according to a royal correspondent for Express, Katie Nicholl, the nickname “really stuck” with Kate. Even today, nearly 8 years into their marriage, the nickname is still something that people know well.
In Katie Nicholl’s 2011 book “The Making of a Royal Romance”, she talked about Kate’s disdain for the nickname that her patience earned her.
While Kate may not have loved her nickname, she proved to have won in the end. We are so happy William and Kate are now eight years into marriage and we love them and adore their precious family! Surely, the nickname was worth it!
