At one point or another, a father dreams of the day he gets the opportunity to walk his little girl down the aisle to the man of her dreams. It’s a moment that always fills a father with a myriad of emotions. On the one hand, he has the honor of giving her away to her prince charming. On the other, he is giving his pride and joy away to now be cared for and loved by another man.
It’s a day that is bittersweet for both father and child, but one that will ultimately lead to a brand new life filled with love and happiness. It’s safe to say that Thomas Markle, Sr., the father of bride-to-be, Meghan Markle, is feeling these very emotions. His pride and joy is marrying the love of her life, her real-life Prince Charming.
Thomas has never been one to be in the limelight, so when news broke that his daughter was engaged to a Prince, I can only imagine the thoughts that ran through his mind. When marrying into a family such as that, then and there you’re faced with the fact that the entire world will be watching the ceremony.
It was rumored that he might not want that kind of attention and many speculated Meghan would have someone else walk her down the aisle. Thankfully, those rumors were put to bed when a family insider told that Thomas would, in fact, be present at the wedding and he was overjoyed with the opportunity.
Not only will Mr. Markle be by his daughter’s side on her big day, but he will also be in company with some of the most influential people in the world. There are many traditions and protocols involved in a wedding of this magnitude and, one, in particular, will be just for Mr. Markle himself.
Traditionally, a coat of arms is presented to the father of the bride in the week before the wedding. When Kate Middleton and Prince William wed, Kate’s father, Michael Middleton, was presented with an elaborate coat of arms. Each one presented represents key features of the family, highlighting the members and attributes.
According to sources the Middleton coat of arms features three acorns, representing the three children of the family, and stands as a representation of where the family is from in West Berkshire. In the center, there is a coat of arms in gold in honor of Kate’s mother, Carole, whose maiden name is Goldsmith. There are also symbols of their passion for the outdoors and deep love for their country.
The British Royal Family love to abide by tradition so it’s safe to say this will be happening for the Markle family in the near future. I can’t wait to see just what theirs will look like!
