Prince Harry Made It Very Clear He Wanted This At The Wedding, But Meghan Was Not On Board. Then This Woman Stepped In

March 20, 2018

The royal wedding is quickly approaching and the wedding details are getting more and more exciting! With May 19th just around the corner, it’s safe to say that bride-to-be Meghan Markle is busy crossing of to-dos from her list.

On March 20th, she crossed off one more, and it happens to be quite a big deal!

In early December 2017, only weeks after announcing their engagement, Meghan and Harry began planning their wedding. The venue was to be St. George Chapel at Windsor Castle - a traditional and elegant venue to say the very least. Although, the following detail proved to leave everyone confused and some even concerned.

Prince Harry, being the easy-going groom that he is- made a statement about wanting to choose the cake. Traditionally, royal weddings serve fruitcake. But Harry stunned nearly everyone when he requested a rather odd flavor: banana! Meghan was not on board…

That’s when she introduced Harry to Claire Ptak, a pastry chef that just worked some major magic.

Pastry chef Claire Ptak just changed everything for the royal wedding by swaying Prince Harry from his original banana flavored cake. As a California native, Claire now owns a bakery, called Violet, in London. She focuses on organic and natural ingredients as well as seasonal flavors. Meghan and Claire go back many years when they met virtually for an interview Meghan conducted for her blog, The Tig.

After the world was stunned by the bizarre idea of a banana wedding cake (royal wedding cakes are typically fruitcake), Claire managed to calm things down by suggesting a different route. And guess what, it worked! Claire is going to be designing the wedding cake and let's just say that banana isn't on her ingredient list.

Claire has announced that the couple will celebrate their day with a “lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavors of spring and it will feature buttercream and fresh flowers as decoration.” Surprisingly, Prince Harry loved the sound of cake and even after being quite stubborn about only wanting a banana flavor! I guess this cake sounded deliciously convincing!

We can’t wait to see what the finished product looks like! It sounds just lovely and we know it will be beautiful and Harry will love it! Maybe Claire will make him his very own banana flavored groom’s cake… it happened for Prince William (He requested a small “cookies and chocolate” cake). We’ll see if he gets a surprise cake!
