Ah, The View. Never a dull moment…
The View is a day-time talk show that features six women with opposing political and spiritual beliefs. Anytime you’re seeing five strong-willed people have a conversation about politics and spirituality, there’s bound to be some colorful dialogue.
Currently, the series features co-hosts Whoopie Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Abby Huntsman, and Meghan McCain. While the group of women is diverse, they tend to be respectful and agreeable most of the time. But on January 16th, two of the hosts got into a vicious outburst that immediately prompted a commercial break.
The conversation began with ease as co-host, Sunny Hostin, began a random discussion about “the racist rhetoric of Congressman Steve King and suggested that Americans who support the proposed border wall are racist.” After a lot of back and forth, Meghan McCain responded.
Meghan, former Senator John McCain’s daughter, responded quite calmly at first, saying, “Well you did just call 42% of the country - there was an implication that they could be racist - which is something that obviously - when you’re talking about Republicans in general - that is obviously something that is going to make Abby and I offended.”
Joy interrupted and said, “All I’m saying is check the platform, not the person.” But then, Meghan erupted.
She yelled from across the table, “I am John McCain’s daughter! I am not someone who sits here and is okay with racism!”
Joy Behar laughed at Meghan’s outburst, pounded her fist, and yelled, “And I'm Dino's daughter....' At that point, the longest lasting host, Whoopi Goldberg, took control and looked at the camera and said, “I’m Whoopi Goldberg and we’ll be right back.”
Thankfully, the women appeared to be controlled after the commercial break, but things definitely got intense for a little bit. But, what can you expect from The View?
