Meghan Misses The Mark...Again. And Standing Next To Kate Makes It Stand Out All The More

July 16, 2018

The opportunity to catch two of the most beautiful women in the world was a photographer’s delight when the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex appeared side-by-side at the women’s championship match of the 2018 Wimbledon tennis tournament. And we have plenty of evidence of that fact in the stunning snaps from the day.

Vying for the trophy were America’s Serena Williams and Germany’s Angelique Kerber. There to support her longtime friend Williams, was the new Duchess of Sussex. But what makes the appearance so special is that she was accompanied by her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.

From the moment they made their way to the Royal Box of the celebrated tennis tournament, all eyes were on the royal-by-marriage duo. Kate, after having just given birth on April 23rd, was stunning in her black-accented white dress. She looked every bit the Royal in the conservative-yet-stylish type of wardrobe selection we have come to expect from her.

Her companion, Meghan, took a much different approach and wore wide-legged, cream-colored trousers paired with a stark blue and white striped oversized blouse, tucked into her flowy, loose-fitted slacks.

The Duchess of Sussex carried her trademark Panama hat, which she ended up being unable to wear due to Wimbledon rules for the Royal box. (Spectators are forbidden from wearing hats, lest they obstruct another person's view.) The two ladies, while each beautiful in her own way, stood out in stark contrast when you put them side-by-side.

So what do you think about the obvious mismatch of styles? Is it just one more example of Meghan being unbending when it comes to conformity with established royal wardrobe protocol? Or is it merely the Duchess' attempt to set herself apart from the British Royals by holding on to her American-actress/California-casual style?

Or it could be that Meghan is just in the process of navigating her way in the Royal ways, and time will tell if she is going to eventually settle into one signature look. But for now, we have to admit we enjoy anticipating what she will wear next and look forward to seeing how her fashion sense evolves over the months and years to come.
