This day in age, it seems everyone is doing what they can to make a difference in the world. One of the most famous women in the world, talk-show host Oprah Winfrey, is no stranger to changing the world. With decades and decades of being the number one daytime entertainer on television, Oprah Winfrey is now considering running in the 2020 United States Presidential Election.
While running for the 2020 presidential election is a bold move indeed, it's not necessarily shocking that Oprah would consider such a thing. Oprah is one of the world’s most influential people and has made a name for herself by being authentic and relevant to humans of every background.
While she has no legitimate political experience, her reputations as a talk-show host, philanthropist, and entertainer have created quite a platform for her. There have also been several political strategists who have recognized her platform as advantageous for the race as the Democratic Party Candidate.
Oprah has been very open about her political views and she campaigned alongside Barack Obama in 2008 as well as Hillary Clinton in 2016. She is publicly keen on a female president and after much consideration with her family and friends, she’s beginning to consider the opportunity more and more.
Two of her close friends said that she is actively thinking about running as the Democratic Party Candidate, and after the Golden Globes aired live on Sunday, January 7, 2018, Oprah herself shared no response other than a smile at one of the top trending topics: “President Winfrey.”
After the 2016 election winner, President Donald Trump, Oprah shared these sentiments regarding her lack of political experience, “I thought, ‘Oh gee, I don’t have the experience. I don’t know though. And now I’m thinking, ‘Oh, oh!” Sounds like the thought has crossed her mind a couple of times...
Oprah Winfrey’s longtime life partner, Stedman Graham, has spoken to the public saying, “It’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it.” There is no doubt that Oprah has a passion for this country, these people, and the culture, but only time will tell whether or not she will genuinely run. For now, it’s all just talk. But with her fans' encouragement, it’s looking more and more like a possibility. While we know nothing for certain, Oprah would definitely have a large following if she chose to run!
