David Matthews, the father-in-law of Pippa Middleton, is being seriously investigated over severe allegations of raping a female minor.
David Matthews became the beloved Duchess of Cambridge’s younger sister’s father-in-law after Pippa Middleton married James Matthews in the summer of 2017. The alleged rape of Mr. Matthews was reported shortly after the wedding which caused quite a stir between the new families.
The alleged rape was reported to have happened in 1998-1999 with an female minor. After being reported more more than 15 years later, Mr. Matthews denied the allegations by saying that the report is “an untrue and scandalous accusation.”
However, under French law, if one is under formal investigation, then “serious and concrete evidence” is already believed to have been discovered. With that definition being so explicit and the current status of Pippa’s father-in-law, the alleged accusations are becoming less and less ideal for Mr. Matthews’ case.
Following the initial report made against Mr. Matthews, he rejected the accusations made against him. A judicial source shared with The Telegraph that Mr. Matthews has no restrictions to “his freedom of movement,” meaning that he is able to move about the country and is not restricted to France. However, that changed on March 27, 2018.
Mr. Matthews traveled to Paris, France for further investigation where he was placed in custody on March 27th, 2018. A Paris Judicial official confirmed Mr. Matthew’s custody to The Telegraph by saying, “I confirm that David M was placed in police custody on 27 March at the Brigade for the Protection of Minors.” The source remains anonymous but respected.
The source continued to share that after his arrest, the “Paris public prosecutor’s office officially opened judicial investigation on the suspect. Mr. Matthews is being placed under judicial supervision by the investigating judge.” While David Matthews continues to plead against the allegations, his family has remained silent on the matter while evidence stacks against him.
All investigation is headed up by the Minor Protection Brigade. There is no official source for how long David Matthews will remain in custody. His family, including his newly extended family of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are not commenting on the matter.
