Prince George celebrated his fifth birthday on July 22nd, and in honor of this milestone, his parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have released an adorable photo of their first-born, and the world can’t get enough of it!

The whole world has joined in on wishing the little heir-to-the-throne a very happy birthday and relished looking back on the five years during which we've come to know and love the little royal.

The now-famous birthday snap, taken on the day of his little bro’s christening, shows an exuberant little boy, smiling ear-to-ear, and looking just about ready to burst with excitement.

We can only imagine the scenario leading up to this precious pic, and it seems that photographer Matt Porteous just barely caught the little prince in between bouts of some sort of shenanigans.

"Happy 5th birthday Prince George!!! I hope you will have an amazing day running around with your friends!! It’s so lovely to see you growing up 💙💙💙💙"

And there is one tiny detail that tells the tale - the last button on his shirt is not even done up. I think it highly unlikely that his mum, Kate, neglected to button it before leaving home that morning, so it appears that the young fellow’s running, jumping, and/or tumbling around resulted in the missing button.

And it just makes us love him even more! It’s so satisfying to know that even members of the Royal Family start out as rambunctious little kids…just like the rest of us!
