Prince Harry is one of the most beloved and famous individuals in the world. And while he’s been living as a royal for his entire life, the prince reveals that living in royalty is ever what you’d expect. In a recent interview, the natural-born prince shared that his place in the very public Royal Family nearly became too much.
Since birth, Prince Harry has been known by the world. His every move has been watched; from being a little tot playing outside to walking behind his beloved mother’s casket at her funeral, his life took a tragic turn.
Harry felt more and more overwhelmed at the thought living out his life without his mother. With his dad the future King and his own brother second in line to the throne, Prince Harry shared that he often felt the weight of the world on his shoulders and he felt that he didn't know his purpose. He began feeling insecure and beaten by the reality of his misunderstood life.
As Harry grew into a young man, the thought of fleeing his family became more and more appealing. He shared that after such a public life, he wanted to “leave it all behind and striking out on his own as a commoner.”
He shared, “I spent many years kicking my heels and I didn’t want to grow up. I felt I wanted out, but then decided to stay in and work out a role for myself.”
Then, something changed for him…
Harry joined the Army. He claims that joining the Army was the “best escape I’ve had.” If it weren’t for the Army, Harry wouldn’t have found his purpose in serving others. Because of his time in the Army, he found a purpose outside of himself. Serving in something bigger than him caused him to see life differently. Something that surely, his mother would have been proud of him for.
After his time in the military, he realized that was dealing with deep heartbreak from the loss of his mother. He shared that he had suffered from depression and anxiety for the last several years, and the that killed him the most was the way the paparazzi “let his mother die.” Watch the video below to see his tearful confession.
Harry has experienced great freedom over the last couple years; from dealing with his own mental health and falling in love with Meghan Markle, the stars in his life have truly aligned. Even though he went through heartbreak and loss, he’s grateful for his life now and all trials that he’s overcome. Don’t you love that about him?!
