On Monday, April 23rd, 2018, the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a healthy baby boy! While the Duke and Duchess nearly had everyone's attention with the news of their newest little one, one very important family member was nowhere to be seen.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were absent from the birth. Sadly, the couple attended a memorial service the same day that Prince Harry's sister-in-law welcomed her third child.
ABC News reports that Prince Harry and Meghan were in attendance with several other to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the murder of Stephan Lawrence. Stephen was killed on April 22, 1993, in what heartbreaking racially-motivated attack. He was only 18 years old.
While neither Prince Harry or Meghan personally knew Stephen Lawrence, they attended the service in support to end racism. ABC writes that a "trust was created in Stephan's honor called The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, which seeks to support young people in the U.K. from disadvantaged backgrounds through training, mentoring and other activities -- and to create "profound cultural changes to attitudes on racism, to the law and to police practice."
While Prince Harry and Meghan we away from the birth, they were greatly missed for the occasion. However, they were honored to be apart of the memorial for Stephan. Harry and Meghan met with the family of Stephan and it's reported that Harry delivered a message from Prince William to Stephan's family since he was away.
Prince Harry and Meghan were believed to be headed to Buckingham Palace to officially welcome their newest nephew. Prince Harry is now sixth in line for the throne since the arrival of the new baby, but he's got no hard feelings towards the little one!
In 2016, Harry spoke quite candidly about his demoted position to Robin Roberts with Good Morning America. He shared that he, Prince Harry said he "relishes his role now as uncle to William and Kate's two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte." He said "You've got to have fun in life. Otherwise, wow, imagine life without fun," Harry said. "You’ve got to be taken seriously, but I hope that I’m a fun uncle."
After the service for Stephan, Prince Harry and Meghan were on their way to meet the newest little royal! Now the question remains: will he be named after Prince Harry? The newborn prince is yet to be named and we can only imagine an honorable name from a beloved family member; "Harry" isn't totally out of the runnings!
Prince Harry and Meghan are set to wed on May 19th, 2018 in St. George's Chapel. We look forward to seeing the newest prince at their wedding!
