Our hearts are heavy this morning as we learn the devastating news of Broadway star and Tony Award-winning actress, Ruthie Ann Miles.
Ruthie Ann was seven months pregnant when police say Dorothy Bruns struck and killed Miles' four-year-old daughter, Abigail, and 1-year-old Joshua Lew as they crossed a Brooklyn intersection.
At the time of the crash, Ruthie was suffering the loss of her vibrant four-year-old while fighting for her own life in the ICU. She spent several days in the ICU but after receiving constant care, she was able to return home. Ruthie Ann shared that her unborn daughter, Sophia Rosemary, was unarmed.
For the next two months, Ruthie Ann and her husband, Jonathan, mourned the loss of their four-year-old, Abigail. Her loss was felt beyond measure but the grieving couple managed to find joy in the arrival of their daughter, Sophia.
They shared that the hope of little Sophia was one of the only things getting them through the grieving process. Ruthie Ann was excited to be a mother to a little girl again.
On Wednesday, May 16th- just days before Ruthie Ann was set to welcome Sophia- it was learned that she had lost her.
Ruthie Ann’s lawyer reported the loss was of Abigail and now Sophia is “nearly unfathomable” to parents Ruthie and Jonathan. He continued with “They are overwhelmed by the sadness of the deaths of their children."
The driver, Dorothy Burns, was reported to have ran a red light after suffering from a seizure while driving her vehicle down the Brooklyn streets. She is being charged with manslaughter. Prosecutors say that a doctor had warned her not to drive.
The loss that Ruthie and Jonathan are feeling right now has to be unimaginable. Please keep them in your prayers as they grieve the loss of both of their precious children.
