She wore a fairytale dress and he wore a subtle tan suit, and together they radiated love.

On Sunday, September 9th, 2018, 12-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Ryan Lochte, married his long-time fiance, Kayla Rae Reid, at Monroe Estate in Palm Springs, California.

This couple decided to go the unconventional route when it came to their family; after welcoming their first son on June 8th, 2017, they had a civil ceremony in Florida on January 9th, 2018. After settling into parenthood, they decided it was time to celebrate their marriage properly.

The couple shared that while they were already married on paper, they wanted to have a wedding for everyone else. Kayla shared, “The wedding is more for everyone else to have a celebration with us. It's not really for us to be married.”

One of the reasons the couple waited for so long to get married was simply because they wanted their son, Caiden Zane, to be old enough to participate in the ceremony. At 15 months, Caiden can be the ring-bearer they’ve been thrilled to have!

Ryan Lochte is known as the second-most decorated swimmer in Olympic history- following his long-time friend and rival, Michale Phelps. For most of his career, Ryan was in deeply admired by the American people for his respect to the sport and his patriotism. But in 2016, the world saw a different side of him.

During the 2016 Summer Olympics, Ryan falsely stated that he and a teammate were robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro. Their claim received international attentional and Ryan was charged with providing a false claim to officials.

After that, Ryan was suspended from competitions for 10 months and his name was tainted with his scandal. It was during that time that he found a strength in his now wife, Kayla. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Ryan shared, “No matter what has happened, Kayla’s been there to pick me up…She’s just been there 100 percent and I owe everything to her.”

Help us congratulate the happy couple and pray for them! Marriage can be such a wonderful journey and we wish them the very best!
