Many stigmas surrounding the American Pit Bull Terrier have made people scared of the breed and what they could do if provoked. For this reason, they are the most common dog breed in U.S. shelters today and are numerous on the streets.
Maya was born on the streets of Miami. At ten months old she had never known any human kindness and was frightful of what would happen to her. Then, she was rescued by Furever Bully Love Rescue and sent to dog trainer Samantha as a foster and felt love for the first time.
Maya had a severe case of mange, a skin disease caused by parasitic mites, and a severely infected eye. Her eye was unable to be saved and once the mange had been treated she underwent surgery to have her eye removed.
Once Maya was ready to be put up for adoption, Samantha came to the realization that she had fallen in love with her sweet foster pup. It turned out that Maya is a big ol' cuddle-loving clown that fits so perfectly in her home, so Samantha decided to make it a permanent placement and adopted Maya herself!
