Exactly one month after the shooting in Florida, police descended on Seaside High School in California after a teacher fired a gun in his classroom. The teacher, Dennis Alexander, was leading a class on gun safety when the gun fired while aimed at the ceiling. He had been checking to ensure that the gun was not loaded when it went off.
The students were injured by falling ceiling debris, but there were no serious injuries and class resumed as planned. Alexander is a councilman and reserve police officer, allowing him to carry his gun into the school even though guns are banned on school premises. He’d been planning to give a demonstration on how to disarm someone.
Mr. Alexander has been suspended while the school investigates whether a crime was committed or not. They are interviewing students who were present in the class, but charges are not likely at this time. Hopefully, this serves as a reminder to everyone to treat everyone as if a gun is loaded to ensure everyone’s safety.
Sometimes we all need a reminder of the good in the world after a horrible scare like this, so check out the video below!
