Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s May 19 wedding is drawing ever closer every day, and we can’t help but become more and more excited! It seems that every day new details are being released, and now we’ve learned that the happy couple are receiving a honor just for them!
On May 1, Britain’s Royal Mint revealed that they were going to release a special edition commemorative coin to mark the occasion! It is a £5 coin, which means it’s worth about $6.88 US.
The front of the coin features a beautifully engraved portrait of the happy couple, along with the words “Royal Wedding May 2018 Harry & Meghan.” The back of the coin features the current portrait of the queen with the words “5 Pounds Elizabeth II DG REG FID DEF.”
The coins are a limited edition thing, and only limited amounts are being produced. 2,018 will be produced in sterling silver, 15,000 in silver proof, and 850 will be produced in the gorgeous gold-proof edition.
The coin was designed by Jody Clark, who is also the brilliant artist behind the most recent portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that is featured on all of the pound sterling coins.
While it may be a £5 coin, the coin is selling for quite a bit more on the Royal Mint website. People looking looking to purchase the gorgeous new gold proof version of the coin in 22 Carat Gold will be set back £1,980! Of course, you can also purchase a regular version of the coin in brilliant, uncirculated condition for £13!
