There aren’t many five-year-olds that have a future ahead of them like Britains’s Prince George. Ahead of him is a magnified life of tough decisions, public scrutiny, worldwide celebrations, and monarchy. But right now, he hasn’t the slightest idea of any of that.
Firstborn son to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George is the third in line for the throne. Although he will wait for his grandfather, Prince Charles, and his father to finish their reigns, Prince George’s entire future is already laid out for him.
In an interview with The Mirror, William confidently admitted that he and Kate have yet to tell George of his future as he explained there is a “time and a place for such a revelation.”
Like many parents, William and Kate have acknowledged the massive amount of burden that their son will inevitably feel one day. Surely, William can empathize with his son. According to Royal biographer Catherine Mayer, “Prince William really struggled with the magnitude of his future role when he was growing up.” William learned his role at a later age than five and he believes his son deserves the same respect.
In 2015, Catherine shared,“With George, they are trying to delay that moment of realization and give him normality before they thrust this on him.” William and Kate have proven to be quite present in each of their children’s lives. Similar to how Princess Diana did her best to give her children normalcy in a fairytale world, Will and Kate strive to do the same.
Catherine continued,“But it will be, nevertheless, part of his upbringing both in terms of what he sees his parents and grandparents doing and probably quite soon a beginning of an understanding that he is in public life and what that means.”
Prince William knows that one day, he and Kate will share George’s destiny with him. In an interview, Will shared, "There'll be a time and a place to bring George up and understand how he fits in, in the world.” Until then, the future King will go on about his days as any happy five-year-old.
What do you think about this? I often wonder how it the conversation will go between William, Kate, and George; above all, I hope for a sense of peace for Prince George. Share your prayer for him in the comment section on Facebook!
